Always A Beer Holiday for Omaha

I have never been to the German American Society in Omaha before, but I really should fix that. In addition to their Oktoberfest, they have Hops for Harmony. Just look at what they’re having this year:

Sip – Over 100 different lagers and stouts, domestic and micro brews, wheat beers and pale ales from throughout Nebraska and the world.

Sample – Mouth watering appetizers from many famous Omaha-area restaurants.

Socialize – With other avid beer and food connoisseurs. Mingle with brewery owners, beer vendors, and Brew Masters!

Support - Project Harmony by taking part in a raffle and silent auction. All contributions will provide a positive and lasting impact on the lives of many children.

To go with the beer they are also having gumbo, Polish sausage, ribs, sandwiches and other selections. Additionally there will be a raffle and silent auction so you can pick up some bootie while you’re at it.

Volunteer info and more is at the Hops for Harmony website.

Kiss My Ass……..

…is what I would say if I spoke Gaelic, or was just telling people what my band’s name meant. Omaha folk-punkers Pog Mo Thon will be at Louis Liquor in the Benson neighborhood this Friday at 7 pm. Get out there if you can. Yes they do kind of look like pirates.

MOAR BEER

This is via Nebraska Beer Blog:

From the Brass Monkey’s Facebook page…

When: Thu, Apr 7 from 2:00 p.m. to Fri, Apr 8 at 2:00 a.m.

Where: Brass Monkey, 5611 S 36th Street, Omaha

What: Celebrate the BEST day of the year. BUY one drink at regular price and recieve the second for only 1 cent.  Includes all imports, micros, craft, and domestics 12 oz. to half liters.

To my knowledge Brass Monkey is one of Omaha’s few possessors of a cask ale tap. They have a mug club too if you like that sort of thing. Worth it if you are near South O on April 7th, I think.

Holy Shit, A Beer Post

No clue if she'll be there on May 20 and 21. But man, I hope so. Look at all those great big, um, heads of foam!

I haven’t done one of these. A while back, I quit drinking. Then I realized it may have been an overreaction. I’ve restarted drinking, but with emphasis on the responsibly. With that said Omaha is having a Beer Fest this summer! Here’s the basic info:

  • Website, naturally.
  • It’s on May 20/21 at the Lewis and Clark Landing. That’s at 515 Riverfront Drive, Omaha, NE
  • It runs from 4-8 the first day, and 2-6 the second.
  • There are DD tickets available.

Yes there’s more, and the important part is the beer. There will be 100 beers available, 25 breweries will be represented, and there will be brewing VIPs, live music and the works.  New Belgium, Boulevard, Lucky Bucket, Nebraska Brewing Company, and Goose Island will be doing presentations at the fest too. So if you want some good, seminar type stuff about how to improve your own brews, there will be plenty of masters there to help you out.

Keep your eyes on Nebraska Beer Blog, the Beerfest website (Link above) and of course here as information becomes available.

If you’re from around the area, well maybe I’ll see you there. I’ll be the guy with the suspicious looking van and signs that read, “Free Clubbing.”

Kris Lager Halloween Party

Omahaites:

The Kris Lager Band is playing the New Lift Lounge on 98th and M St in Omaha, NE on Oct. 31 at 9pm.

Kris Lager and the boys have been discussed on Lobo before – they are a sample of Southern rock, blue-eyed soul, R&B, and jam rock. Fans of everything from Allman Bros to Umphrey’s McGee will find something to like.

If the numerous other Halloween parties aren’t your speed, and you want a heaping slice of bluesy, soulful rock to fill your night, get down to the Lift.

See Dr. San Guinary and Nebraska Brewing Co for more info.

*Corrected – originally said “organizer,” that is not the case. See comments for more info about the walk organizers.
